Thing #24 My Thoughts on the Program
I have spent the last 10 weeks doing a library program called 25 Things. All of the "25 things" were internet based excercises. At first, my thoughts were a little negative. Why would I need to know about all these different sites? Once I started to do some of the excercise, I was happy to find that I will be visiting the sites again. Not all of them, but some of them. I found a few to be very interesting, fun, and very cool. I also found some sites that I will probably never use again, but now I can say that at least I tried it. For someone who is really self taught on computers, I really enjoyed doing this. Old dogs can still learn new tricks.
Thing #23 Netlibrary
Now this is a site that I could really get into. I do a lot of walking at night with my dog. Downloading a book would be just the thing. I downloaded a book and started to listen to it. Not bad. I can see myself using this one again.
Thing # 22 Podcasting.
I explored Podcasting today. At first I found it to be a little confusing. I am not sure why. I figured out what a Podcast was and how to use them, but I really don't think I will explore this too much. Maybe when I have some time, I will try again and give it a fair shot!
Thing #21 Youtube
I have been on Youtube for few years now. I use this great tool for exploring music videos, balloon twisters, and sporting events. To me, this is one of the best sites ever.

Thing # 20
Well todays excercise was working in wpl learning 2.0. This was an interesting site. I explored through the headings and read some of the staff inputs on Pets, Vacations, and Restaurants. This is an interesting way of getting reviews and antidotes on things. Steve

Thing # 19 Wikis
Wikis, that's a funny word. I had no idea what that was. But, with a little playing and exploring, I discovered that a wiki is a site to go if you need to colaborate with other on a topic. A good example would be in my line of work where I want to undertake a constuction project. I could start a wiki and have all my contractors contribute so I can best see what I need to do first. I am not sure I will use it right now, but maybe when I have time to try it out on a small project, I will give it a try.
Thing # 17 Library 2.0
Over the past few 5 weeks I have been participating in Library 2.0. I have learned that there is still tons of interactive, informative and discoveries to be had in the world wide web. I will use some of the sites that I learned about, while some I won't. But just to know about them and to be able to pass the info on to others would be good.
Thing # 16 Technorati
I visited the front page for Technorati today. This is a site for searching the internet. I am not sure I will use this site as I really am just getting use to the Google search site. Maybe once I master one search, I will venture out and try more. We'll see.
Thing # 15 Delicious
Today I am learning about Delicious.com. which is social bookmarking for web sites. Personally, I am not sure that I will use this site too much. I currently organize my web sites right on my favourites. I like this way of doing it.

Twitter Account Setup.
Well, today I set up a Twitter account. It was an easy thing to do. I have heard of Twitter, but not really used it yet. I think some exploration is in my future.

Thing # 11 Finding Feed Post
As mentioned in the last post, I discovered RSS applicatons. One of my most favourite sites is YouTube. I am very interested in 10 pin bowling and this site provides me with videos of the matches that I can't catch on TV. Another site I have is Balloon Manor. This is a site for balloon twisters but focuses on professional balloon twisters that have twisted a complete spooky house for halloween. They do great work and some amazing stuff can be seen.
Well I will now keep watching for the little orange RSS label on each web site so I can decide if it is worth following or not.

Thing # 10 RSS Discovery
Well today I learned what and how an RSS is. This could be very addicting. There are several web sites that I hit on a daily basis so this could work out ok. I will be very interested in seeing some of the responsed I see through the RSS from the sites that I have chosen. Learning about different "web Applications" is going to advance my computer literacy 10 fold.
Let see what comes next.

Part 3 of 25 Things....I made a trading card.
Hi there. I am now on part 3 of the "25 Things" program that we are doing at work. Part 3 was to explore some different sites. One site was to explore was flickr mashups and 3rd party sites. I discovered how to make a trading card by using site www.bighugelabs.com
I made a trading card with me holding a large mouth bass.
Check it out. That is a cool site. I think I will play with that one a bit more!

San Fransico Picture/Taken from Flickr
I was exploring flickr and discovered some pictures from San Fransico. There is one taken of Alcatraz prison from the ferry. I was in San Fran about 4 years ago. Great city. This shot reminds me of the movie Shutter Island. I would go back there in a heart beat. I enjoyed walking around Alcatraz.

What I have learned so far.
Well, for someone who only knows how to do email and spreadsheets, this is the first time I have ever Blogged. I have heard of the terms before but had no idea what it was all about. This should be fun. I am looking forward to it...
